We’re excited to report there is some fun outdoor live music in Cape May this August. While there are certainly a few atypical social restrictions (we’re all aware), two venues have stepped up to keep us entertained with excellent live music through the rest of the summer.

Elaine’s Inside Out Concert Series

This summer, Elaine’s introduced its “Inside Out” concert series, in partnership with Spyboy Productions of the Exit Zero Jazz Festival. The series features several shows (two seatings a night) in a new outdoor venue. Concerts will run through the end of the summer and two bands (see below) will perform multiple times through September 5. Upcoming Live Music in Cape May at Elaine’s:

Paul Jost 4tet | Tuesday, August 4, 2020 | 5:00 PM and 9:00 PM | $10

Known as a passionate storyteller and charismatic performer, South Jersey native Paul Jost is a talented vocal and instrumental jazz musician. An established swinger from the Mark Murphy school of hip, Jost enjoyed a successful, decades-long career as a drummer, sideman and leader before making the switch to work solely as a jazz vocalist. Over the years, his musical talents extended to guitar and harmonica, but it’s his soulful delivery and fantastic scatting ability that make him a real standout.

Enjoy either sundown or sunset shows. Booking information.

Bluebone | Friday, August 7, 2020 plus other dates | 5:00 PM and 9:00 PM | $10

Bluebone is the ultimate rock/blues band, touting a career that spans nearly 20 years. Led by Cape May’s own guitar slinger/singer-songwriter Jay Bethel, this powerhouse trio is fueled by the hard-charging rhythm tandem of bassist Van Burriss and drummer Thomas Jefferson. Their latest CD is Devil Keep Chewin’.

Enjoy either sundown or sunset shows. Booking information.

Elaine’s Cape May observes all state and local safety and health regulations. Attendees are to wear face coverings in all common areas of Elaine’s, including entrances, exits and the bar. Dining tables observe current social distancing guidelines.

SunSet Jazz Series

The SunSet Jazz series is produced by Spy Boy Productions and the Exit Zero Jazz Festival. Performances are held not far from the Queen Victoria on the Green Space on the Emlen Physick Estate. Two of four upcoming artists are:

Orrin Evans Trio | Saturday, August 8, 2020 | 7:00 PM

Orrin Evans and his trip are ready to dig deep into the fertile music ground of Black Women Composers. Haling from Philidelphia, Orrin studied with Kenny Barron and worked as a sideman for Bobby Watson, Ralph Peterson, Duane Eubanks and Lenora Zenzalai-Helm before releasing his debut as a leader in 1997, Justin Time.

Keyon Harold | Sunday, August 16, 2020 | 7:00 PM

Keyon Harrold is a dazzling presence on the jazz scene. Born and raised in Ferguson, Missouri, he is one of sixteen children in a family of musicians. His set will include originals from The Mugician that feature elements of jazz, rock, funk, reggae and hip-hop. He counts Miles Davis, Prince and J Dilla as important influences.

Of course, all CDC guidelines are observed to keep patrons, musicians, and staff safe and healthy. Visit the SunSet Jazz calendar for the full lineup.
