As the sun rises over Cape May, golden light spills over the streets and gardens. At The Queen Victoria Bed & Breakfast, we pause to reflect. Memorial Day is more than the start of summer. It’s a sacred time to honor the brave men and women who gave their lives for our country.

Many of our guests bring memories of loved ones who served. You carry stories of courage. You understand the true cost of freedom. Your presence enriches our community. We are honored to share this day of remembrance with you.

Cape May’s Memorial Day Remembrance Ceremony

Musical Tribute by the Atlantic Brass Band

On Sunday, May 25, 2025, at 7:00 PM, the Atlantic Brass Band will perform a free concert at Rotary Park, located at 400-498 Lafayette Street. This performance, part of the Cape May Music Festival, will feature a selection of rousing American music, providing a stirring tribute to our nation’s heroes. Guests are encouraged to bring a chair or blanket to enjoy this evening of patriotic melodies under the stars.

Sunset Beach Flag Ceremony

A cherished tradition in Cape May is the daily flag-lowering ceremony at Sunset Beach, which begins on Memorial Day weekend and continues through the summer. Each evening, a flag that once draped the casket of a veteran is lowered as “Taps” plays, offering a moment of reflection and honor. This touching ceremony has been a part of Cape May’s heritage since 1973 and serves as a powerful reminder of the sacrifices made for our freedom.

A Time for Reflection and Gratitude

Back at The Queen Victoria, we invite our guests to join us on the front porch for a quiet moment of reflection. With the gentle sea breeze and the soft rustle of leaves, it’s a serene setting to share stories, memories, and perhaps a toast to those we’ve lost and those who continue to serve.

Memorial Day is a tapestry woven with threads of sorrow and pride, loss and gratitude. It’s a day to remember, to honor, and to come together as a community bound by respect and love for our country.

From all of us at The Queen Victoria, we extend our deepest gratitude to our veterans, their families, and to you, our treasured guests. May this Memorial Day bring peace to your hearts and a renewed appreciation for the freedoms we hold dear.
