Summer is in full swing here in Cape May, and that means beautiful weather, fine dining, excellent shopping, and – of course – outstanding Cape May theater performances.

Whether you’re a patron of the arts, or simply appreciate a good show every now and again, Cape May Stage and East Lynn Theater Company have performances you’ll love. Not visiting until late summer or early fall? No problem! These performances extend into Autumn (our favorite season in Cape May). If you haven’t booked your stay (or tickets) we suggest you do so soon. This season has been exceptionally busy and we’re not sure what to expect come fall.

Upcoming Cape May Theatre Performances

Cape May Stage

ANN by Holland Taylor | June 30 through August 22, Tuesday through Sunday, 7 pm

ANN is an intimate portrait of Ann Richards, the legendary late Governor of Texas. This inspiring and hilarious play brings you face to face with a complex, colorful, and captivating character bigger than the state from which she came. Written and originally performed by Emmy Award-winner Holland Taylor, ANN takes a revealing look at an impassioned woman who enriched the lives of everyone around her.

Last of the Red Hot Lovers by Neil Simon | September 7 through November 21, Wednesday through Saturday, 7 pm

Middle-aged and married, overworked and overweight, Barney Cashman wants to join the sexual revolution before it’s too late. He arranges three seductions. His first, Elaine Navazio, proves to be a foul-mouthed bundle of neuroses. Second, Bobbi Michele, proves to be a bit too kooky. And, finally, there’s Jeanette Fisher, a gloomy, depressed housewife who happens to be married to Barney’s best friend.

East Lynn Theatre Company

Vaudeville Variety | July 24, and 31 plus August 21 and 28, Saturdays, 7 pm

Vaudeville originated in France as a combination of comic skits and unrelated songs. This lighthearted entertainment quickly spread to other countries and was popular in the United States from the mid-1890s through the early 1930s. In one evening of Vaudeville, there could be a dozen unrelated performances by comedians, singers, magicians, acrobats, jugglers, dancers, and trained animals. Join the East Lyn Theatre Company for an eclectic collection of these fun and comedic acts. *Performed outside at West Cape May Borough Hall’s Back Yard, 732 Broadway in West Cape May.

Dorothy Parker: A Certain Woman | September 15 through October 16, Wednesdays through Saturday, 8 pm

Suzanne Sawson performs a selection of Parker’s work including A Telephone Call, a portrait of a woman waiting anxiously for a man to call. She counts to five hundred by fives, seeks God’s help, and wishes the man was dead, only to change her mind. “After all,” she says, “it’s silly to go wishing people were dead just because they don’t call you up the minute they said they would. Maybe the clock’s fast.” *Performed at Cape May Presbyterian Church, 500 Hughes Street, Cape May, NJ

We’re looking forward to these Cape May theater performances and plenty of other fun events this summer and fall in Cape May.
