Getaway to Cape May, New Jersey

Romantic Itinerary

Getaway to Cape May

It’s easy to turn a weekend away in Cape May into a romantic affair. From the interesting restaurants to romantic walks along the beach, it’s hard not to find romantic activities here. If you can only get away for a weekend, here is a Cape May romantic getaway itinerary that adds a certain flair to your travels.

Friday

Start your romantic Cape May weekend off by checking in at the Queen Victoria. Our luxurious rooms are the perfect retreat for you to reconnect with your loved one. After dropping off your luggage and personal items, we recommend selecting a restaurant for dinner. Cape May is the dining capital of New Jersey so no matter what you decide on, you won’t be disappointed.

410 Bank Street

We recommend 410 Bank Street, specializing in French Creole cuisine, that Zagat has called a “tastebud explosion.” 410 Bank Street is a BYOB establishment, so you may wish to stop by Collier’s Liquor Store at 202 Jackson Street prior to your dinner reservation and pick up a bottle of wine to complement your meal.

Enjoy a stroll through our picturesque Victorian town and watch the sunset together. You may also want to return early, take a bubble bath or enjoy the mood of the fireplace in select rooms. Then, drift off into a peaceful night’s sleep.

Saturday

Wake up refreshed and ready for your first full day in Cape May. We wouldn’t dream of sending you out without a hot breakfast! Join us from 8 – 10 a.m. every day for coffee, eggs, granola, fruit, and scrumptious muffins. Served buffet style, you and your partner can enjoy helpings of your favorite breakfast items.

After you’ve had your fill, head out into Cape May to start exploring! Walking through the city is one of our favorite ways to acquaint ourselves with a new location, but there are lovely biking trails and paths through the city should you wish to pedal your way around Cape May. Some rentals offer complimentary bike delivery to The Queen Victoria.

For a fun lunch venue, try out the Mad Batter, located close to the inn. A true Cape May landmark, their lunch menu will leave you full and satisfied. We recommend the Mad Batter crab cake sandwich or the Waldorf chicken croissant.

Red WineIn the afternoon, visit one of our fabulous wineries or depending on when you’re staying with us, attend Cape May Wine School. The class is limited to 80 students and helps you learn your way around the vine, so to speak. Learn about the subtle differences in fine wines and learn how to pair wine with food. There are four wineries in the area and each offer full-bodied flavors and light wines for every palate. We’re very passionate about wine at The Queen Victoria; just ask us about our Wine Lover’s Weekend wine blending challenge! If you need any advice on which wineries to visit or in what order, do not hesitate to ask.

If wine isn’t your cup of tea we invite you to come back to our bed and breakfast and join us for high tea! Every afternoon from 4 – 5:30 p.m., we host an afternoon tea complete with tea-time treats.

For dinner, pay a visit to the Black Duck on Sunset. It offers a relaxed atmosphere and menu items bursting with flavor.

Cling closer to your loved one as you hear about the spooks and hauntings in our town on the Ghosts of Cape May Trolley Tour! These 30-minute tours share the paranormal findings by local psychic Craig McManus and start at 7 p.m. on select dates.

Head back to our bed and breakfast and get cozy in your comfortable bed for another good night’s sleep.

Sunday

We know it’s generally moonlit strolls along the beach, but why not wake up early and head to the beach to watch the sun rising over the ocean? It’s a truly magnificent sight. You may even see our own innkeeper, Doug, as he’s no stranger to the early morning sandy shores. Lifeguard Stands on Cape May Beach

We hope you’ll come back to join us for another delicious breakfast and fun conversation with the other guests. Feel free to linger and enjoy the grounds of The Queen Victoria before starting your day. We won’t mind if you take a quick nap on our deck chairs.

After breakfast, get some walking in while you explore the shops at Washington Street Mall. Find a gift or souvenir you and your sweetheart will enjoy for years to come or do some fun window shopping along the way.

For lunch, why not feel like high school sweethearts and split a milkshake at an old fashioned soda fountain? Head over to the Washington Street Mall and find Dellas 5 & 10 Soda Fountain. They have 14 varieties of grilled cheese sandwiches, wraps, soups, and hot dogs on the menu as well.

After lunch, take to the seas for some whale and dolphin watching! It makes for a perfect photo opportunity and the chance to learn more about our marine life. Cape May Whale Watcher guarantees you’ll see a few mammals during your tour.

Book a dinner at the Blue Pig Tavern for classic American comfort food. The restaurant uses a farm-to-table style and the menu couldn’t have any more delicious entrees to choose from. The Blue Pig is a favorite among the locals and our guests.

Horse and CarriageFinally, round out your romantic weekend with a horse and carriage ride through town. Live out your fairy tale fantasy as you trundle along our historic streets under a full moon.

Monday

At this point you’ll want to extend your stay in Cape May and we’d be happy to help or arrange for another romantic getaway in the future.
